Third Thursday Talk: The Digital Marietta Project By Dr. Matt Young

Suggested Price: $10.00

Description

In this recording of our October 2020 Virtual Third Thursday Talk, Dr. Matt Young of the Marietta College History Department brings viewers up to speed on his long-term local history project called Digital Marietta. His work combines the power of digital mapping with traditional historical research in primary source materials. Digital Marietta will be an online resource of interest to genealogists and historians alike, in that it will join historic maps of Marietta with census and other public records to allow users to do research on Marietta’s past. The searchable database could be used to reveal information on a particular place or person, or the aggregate data could be used to do sophisticated analysis of local social and economic history. This project grows out of two new minors championed by the History Department in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Public History.
