The Castle offers great educational opportunities for your classroom, homeschoolers, scouts, or youth groups. We can also tailor programs to fit your group’s area of interest. Each of our educational opportunities includes a tour of The Castle. Within this tour your group will learn about the history of The Castle as well as such historical topics as local Marietta/Washington County; Ohio and American history; nineteenth century architecture, furniture and design; the Civil War; and lifestyles, roles, and culture of nineteenth century men, women, and children.

Day at The Castle
Tour the museum, cook like a pioneer, create an old timey craft, and learn the pastimes of long ago. This is a participatory, hands-on program that teaches how food was obtained, prepared, preserved, and cooked in the nineteenth century. Participants help fix a rustic stew, cornbread, and applesauce cake that is cooked in our fireplace and then served as the midday meal for the group. Groups have the chance to choose from craft activities of leatherwork, pottery, paper weaving, paper quilt, whirligig, thaumotrope, and poppies. We also include indoor and/or outdoor (weather permitting) Victorian pastimes (aka games) for this program.
Timeframe: 4 hours // Availability: September through April; begins at 10 AM
Please Note: With this program a meal is provided, as described above. We cook our meal so that all participants, including chaperones, can partake. Anyone that is not interested in the meal is encouraged to bring their own lunch; we do not provide refrigeration. Please notify us of dietary restrictions.
