Visit The Castle for a rewarding out-of-the-classroom learning experience!

Experience life in the nineteenth century with a visit to The Castle Historic House Museum. It’s the ideal place to immerse your students in the history of nineteenth century America with experiential tours and hands-on activities. The Castle offers standards-based educational opportunities for classroom students, homeschoolers, scouts, or youth groups. We also can tailor programs to fit your group’s area of interest.

Scheduling Considerations For Your Visit

Thank you for your interest in booking a field trip with us! We are a small – but mighty – staff and volunteer pool. Due to this we want to encourage you to schedule your field trip as far in advance as possible. Starting in the fall of 2024, we will be placing limitations on the number of field trips we are able to provide each month. However, we will do our best to accommodate your group!

From past experience, the months that get booked up the fastest are April and May. All of our field trip experiences are available throughout the academic year, August through May. If you are looking to book in our busy months, please submit a field trip request form as early as possible.

Teacher Orientation Packet
Before booking one of our programs, please review this document with pre-trip information. Contained within are helpful resources like the field trip checklist and policies, chaperone forms, OH & WV standards, and activities for before and after your visit.
Bus Fund
Thanks to the generosity of our membership, a fund has been established to help offset the travel expenses for schools interested in participating in a field trip to The Castle. Funding up to $200 may be awarded for travel expenses.

Tour the house, cook like a pioneer, create a craft from the past, and learn games from long ago. This is a hands-on program that teaches how food was obtained, prepared, preserved, and cooked in the nineteenth century. Participants help fix a rustic stew, cornbread, and applesauce cake cooked in our fireplace and then served as the midday meal. Groups choose from a variety of craft activities, for example: leatherwork, pottery, thaumatrope, and paper weaving. We also include indoor and/or outdoor (weather permitting) pastimes (aka games) for this program.
