This year’s “Coming Alive” cemetery tour features a new cemetery and new characters! Each year our “coming alive” tour brings to life several interesting individuals buried in local cemeteries through living history interpreters. These interpreters give voice to the day-to-day life, extraordinary events, or intriguing connections throughout the cemetery. You and your family will be able to listen to historical accounts, ask questions, and walk away with a deeper understanding of our local history.
Characters that will be “coming alive” are:
Daniel Farrell – Servant at The Castle and later a grocer, then sexton of Oak Grove Cemetery.
August James Weber – Prolific artist and member of the Weber grocery family.
Anna Christy – During her ailment with diphtheria she produced an impressive piece of hair art on display at The Castle.
Bertha Brockmeier – A mother to 6 of sons who served in WWII.
George Hane – 2nd generation American & WWI artillery service member.
William Bickert – WWI engineer service member
Cost: $12 Adults; $9 Kids (age 13 & under); Ages 5 and under free

Cemetery Tour Tips:
Tours last up to one hour and 15 minutes
Walking takes place across uneven ground and between headstones
You’ll be standing at some locations for around 10 – 15 minutes
Check the weather and dress accordingly
Bringing water, walking sticks, or easily carried folding chairs is encouraged
When you arrive at the cemetery, if you already have a reservation or tickets check-in with the Castle team member with a clipboard.
Unless otherwise noted, tickets will continue to be sold onsite. Paying for your admission with exact change is appreciated.
