Before the town was named for a nearby railroad structure, residents of this rural community just outside of Marietta faithfully answered their country’s call to service. This tour will tell stories of just a few of the more than 200 veterans buried there who served and sacrificed for our nation from the Revolutionary War to Korea. Stories include: Col. Thomas Moore, a Union officer who survived a deadly Confederate Secret Service plot; three Wright brothers who died in the Civil War, including one at the notorious Andersonville Prison; Harvey Ellenwood, a WWI recruit who fell victim to the Spanish Flu; William Sullivan, a WWII sailor who was killed at New Guinea; Raymond Bailey, an eyewitness to the carnage of the D-Day landings at Normandy and other battles; and Herschel Davis, a casualty of the “Forgotten War” in Korea.
Cost: $10
