Cemetery Tours: Patriots Tour

Saturday, July 1, 2023 – 10am & 12pm

Commemorate our country’s 246th Independence Day with a fascinating stroll through Marietta’s most historic cemetery to learn the amazing stories of Marietta’s Revolutionary War soldiers! Join us as we explore new stories of true patriots who changed our nation’s history.

Our tour guide will use an enhanced speaker system to ensure adequate audio levels and social distancing.

Tour begins at Mound Cemetery, Fifth and Scammel

Cemetery Tour Tips:

Tours last up to one hour and 15 minutes

Walking takes place across uneven ground and between headstones

You’ll be standing at some locations for around 10 – 15 minutes
Check the weather and dress accordingly

Bringing water, walking sticks, or easily carried folding chairs is encouraged

When you arrive at the cemetery, if you already have a reservation or tickets check-in with the Castle team member with a clipboard.

Unless otherwise noted, tickets will continue to be sold onsite. Paying for your admission with exact change is appreciated.

Mound Cemetery

Mound Cemetery was established in 1801 by Marietta city founders in order to preserve the Great Mound (also known as Conus), a prehistoric Adena burial mound. The cemetery has more American Revolutionary War officers buried in it than any other cemetery in the country. Rufus Putnam and Benjamin Tupper, who founded the Ohio Company of Associates are buried in Mound Cemetery.
