Aviation and the desire for flight has changed our daily lives and the world history. This tour will highlight the stories of those who piloted, defended, and jumped from the sky from the infancy of the airplane through World War II. Hear stories about: the daredevil pilot who dropped air mail from his plane in Marietta in 1912, a local building contractor who served in the aero squadrons during WWI, a pilot who flew “The Hump” who was decorated for rescuing nuns from behind enemy lines in WWII, a radar navigator on a B-29 Superfortress who received his flight training at Marietta College, and a paratrooper who was wounded in “Operation Victory,” the largest airborne assault in world history.
Our tour guide will use an enhanced speaker system to ensure adequate audio levels and social distancing.
Tour begins at Mound Cemetery, Fifth and Scammel
