Third Thursday: The Castle: “Summer Fantasies” A Concert Presented by Merewyn Weinkauf and Guest Vocalist Victoria Humphrey

Thursday, June 15th, 2023 7pm – 8pm

This concert will include works by Brahms, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, among others. The program will center around works that have a summer theme, programmatic poems, or summer experiences.

About the performers: Merewyn Weinkauf is an Assistant Professor of Music. Her nineteen-year career at Marietta College includes performing for young artists, guest artists, and faculty recitals. She has performed recitals, both solo and collaborative, in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, West Virginia, and all parts of Ohio. In addition to her playing, Ms. Weinkauf teaches private piano students and music history at Marietta College.

Ms. Weinkauf studied with Dr. Theresa Bogard at the University of Wyoming at the young age of fourteen. At sixteen, Merewyn won the Northwest Civic Young Artist Competition and made her debut with the symphony performing Grieg’s Concerto in A Minor with the Northwest Civic Orchestra in Cody, Wyoming. From there she earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from East Texas Baptist University and her Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from Baylor University, where she studied with Dr. Elvia Puccinelli. Merewyn also has additional studies in German Lieder from the University of Vienna, Austria.

Ms. Weinkauf has been very active in her field in Ohio. She has twice served as president of the local district of Ohio Music Teacher’s Association and is currently the treasurer. She was the founder of the Marietta College Sonatina Festival and won Woman of the Year Award in 2011 at Marietta College. Merewyn has been sought after as an adjudicator in the region, judging for West Virginia Music Teacher’s Association and Ohio University’s Concerto Competition. She has worked with Emmy Award Winner Tony Vincent and taught American Popular Music at the University of International Relations in Beijing, China.

 About the performers: Victoria Humphrey is a rising senior Vocal Performance and Music Education double major at Marietta College. Most recently, she has performed as “Madame Kirsten” in John Duke’s Captain Lovelock, “The Witch” in Into the Woods, and “Baba/Madame Flora” in The Medium. On campus, she is a part of several ensembles, including Concert choir, Floodstage A cappella choir, and the newly formed MC Barbershop Quartet. She has served as soprano section leader and choir president in her time at Marietta College as well. She is a member and president of the student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association on campus. She is also an active member of the Collegiate National Association for Music Educator. She is a member and newly elected vice president of the Mu Psi Kappa Music Honors Society. Victoria is also a choral scholar at the First Presbyterian Church in Marietta. She is currently studying with Dr. Amy Yekel.
